It peaked at number one on the US Billboard soul chart, and number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. On the UK Singles chart the song peaked at number 3, "Solid" would get the number 1 spot in New Zealand and become a Top 10 hit in Austria, Canada, Ireland, The Netherlands, Switzerland and West Germany.
