The song won Best British Single at the 1991 Brit Awards. It reached number 1 in various countries including Denmark, Spain and on the US Alternative Airplay (Billboard), and be a Top Ten hit in Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland;, it scored a number 2 on the US Cash Box Top 100, US Dance Singles Sales Chart and number 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
